Know Your Bike’s Needs

How cyclists can prevent road traffic accidentsAn unseen cyclist is a danger to both the cyclist and driver, posing risks for road traffic accidents. So make sure you know what equipment your bike needs to be properly outfitted according to Ohio law (ORC 4511.56):

  • Front headlight – A lamp must be mounted on the front of the bike. Its light must be visible from a distance of 500 feet in front and 300 feet on either side.
  • Back headlight – On the rear of the bike, a lamp must emit flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of 500 feet.
  • Red reflector – A red reflector on the seat must be visible from at least 100 feet.

Now the bell that you had on your bike when you were a kid ― that’s your personal choice.
